IMPACT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY Currently, the region is underserved. The creation of CCSP will be a bona fide enterprise dedicated to retaining local talent in the local marketplace. This retention of highly educated and skilled workers in the region will positively impact the socioeconomics of the region, will increase opportunities to staff pharmacies, and will expand opportunities to provide 24-hour pharmacy services. For years the regional absence of a major doctoral-degree granting institution has served as a constraint for students in the region considering doctoral degrees. CCSP would allow students the option to retain family and cultural ties while earning a doctoral degree—an opportunity not currently available. Local hospitals including Community Medical Center and the Veteran’s Hospital have voiced concern about their present inability to fill pharmacy rotations. CCSP would provide pharmacists for regional rotations. Many possibilities for future collaboration exist between CCSP and local educational institutions. Students would have the option to choose locally; once graduated, the likelihood of remaining in the Valley increases. IMPACT ON LOCAL ECONOMY Investments in capital programs, infrastructure, and operations will generate jobs in the community as start-up and in ongoing programs. Currently, local pharmacy students must attend school elsewhere. When they do, the money they spend on food and lodging, transportation, tuition and supplies—just about everything they need, goes out of the community. Providing quality education close to home keeps the money in our community. |
